Cochin Thread!!!

Here's my bantam GLC, Lil Boss. I had a gorgeous trio last year that were killed. I have a trio but these aren't nearly as nice as the ones I had and I'm hoping to find some really nice ones again. Also my trio turned out to be two cockerals and a hen. LOL Little stinker snuck up on me!

Anyway, here's Lil Boss. He's just 5 months old.

I have an absolutely stunning Blue Birchen. Now if I could find a couple of hens for him.......

Laurie

Is Birchen the silver counterpart to Brown Red? Or am I thinking of something else?

I too like the over all look of your guy. If I wanted to be really critical, I might say that his lacing goes down a little too far on his breast and he has some stippling, similar to my own roo. He looks a little tall in the first picture, but that might just be a matter of his attitude at the moment. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like he may be carrying his wings either low or loose. My own roo carries his a bit low and they are none too tight. When you go looking for hens/pullets for him, try to get girls with as little lacing down their breast as possible.

You can see my roo on page 277 post #2768. You can see he also has stippling on his breast.

If this is the question you are referring to, I'm going to say that depends on the evaluator. I don't think most birds reach a point of being "filled out" until after their first birthday, but one of my girlfriends does a pretty good job of assessing chicks at about 3 mo old. I've had my fair share of hatchery Partridge Cochins, particularly the roos can be very attractive, I love their pattern. Have you thought about talking with CochinMan about getting some better quality birds from him? He raises both bantams and LF and they are beautiful. I have a small flock that I think are very nice, but they are still very young as far as their establishment in my hands is concerned.
