4 Pullets.

That is exactly what I thought! I hope so. May need to find a cockerel if I like these girls. I think my friend, Nella, may have some spare boys from time to time.

He's a super nice roo too, very sweet. I have him in with my 3 lavender hens and a very nice black hen~ Molly just started laying too!! I bought this pair and my lavenders from Austin Hart, very beautiful, healthy birds and his prices are very reasonable.

I have blue and splash chicks, both frizzled and smooth. Also white coming on (I hope--they're incubating now!). Plan to post pics whenever I can get them to hold still!

E.M. Silkies :

I just saw where someone mentioned vulture hocks in the cochins. What exactly is that?

Hocks are at the very base of the thighs. They should be "covered with soft flexible feathers, curving inwards about the hocks, free from vulture-like feathering" (from the SOP). Vulture-like feathering is long and stiff, rather than soft and flexible. It is a disqualification in Cochins.

Sounds like something I shouldn't go to!! When is it? Do you know the dates?

Au contraire, if you want to see or have the chance to buy the best birds, it is THE PLACE to go. You never know what you will find there and the opportunities are limitless!

The Crossroads show dates are October 28,29,30, 2011 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. I suggest comfortable shoes and a camera with fresh batteries. Maybe a crate in the trunk to take home something new? To say it is a big event is not doing the show justice. Hope to see many of you there.

Thanks for the info! I'll be there for sure, maybe a couple of carriers in the trunk too!
