Pullet.

Very typical for Black Cochins to have a good amount of yellow down at hatch. Some molt in their first feathers with a bunch of white tipped feathers, others don't. They molt a couple times, sort of continuously as they progress to adulthood.

Here's a great thread devoted entirely to Mille Fleur Cochins:

The very simplest of answers is Buff Columbian x Mottled - that's what probably the majority of the early project leaders started with. There are so many folks working with them now, it's getting relatively easy to find both eggs and started stock, so no need for anyone to start from the beginning! Most everyone is working with Bantams. And please keep in mind that this is still a "Project" for everyone. The color and pattern (and of course type!) has yet to be consistent from one generation to the next, and not yet to ABA Standards. But a lot of breeders are getting close, and there are a lot of very nice birds out there.

I was wondering this as well. On feathersite's penedesecna page, there is a picture of a Mille Fleur color, and underneath is says, the mille fleur color was created by crossing wheaten and partridge(not an exact qoute). I know there are partridge cochins, but I never heard of wheaton ones.

Is anyone working of LF Mille Fleur? All I've seen is bantam

She's a really pretty girl!

Thank you! My boyfriend and I bought her because she looked like a penguin. She was in a bantam straight run tub so we had no idea what breed or gender any of them were. Glad we got stuck with such a pretty little pullet.

I had a hard time finding the ONE I got... the lady told me I could have 3 but when I showed up she only had 1 GLC. I was worried someone "knew" which ones were pullets and left me the roo, but she said the shipper was supposed to send her more but she only got the one. I'm glad it's a pullet. Sometimes makes me wonder... it doesn't really act roo, just stands tall and with that fluffy body and teeny little head... it's fairly friendly, too. Always comes up to me when I open the coop.

These are my other ones now at 3 weeks. 3 are supposed to be cochins, and 2 are cochin/ameraucana (mom was a blue). I'm not sure which ones are which yet though. Maybe 2 of the splash are the c/a's and the 2 whites and 1 splash are cochins... I'm not sure on gender yet either. Any ideas yet?
