Cochin Thread!!!

Thanks, I had heard that it should be v-shaped - he was having a cranky day for all that Samson likes his cuddles but I will take another photo and post - he does show alot of white in this photo and I thinkit is due to the light & wind that wasblowing. I do know that compared to some photos he does not have huge feathering at his feet which may be due to his young age.

Sorry if the typing is bad...have a little SSH who hatched several hours ago that was cryng for attention so momma is holding him while he cheeps himself to sleep near me heart - just a cutie - need to make a hatchling sling....

This is the first year trying to compile a Cochins-Only Breeders Directory, so we made it really generic, with just their BYC Usernames. But we do have some fantastic folks on there with LF - so you just have to contact some of them and see if they can help you with eggs.

If there is interest, I'd definitely like to expand the info on the Directory! I've been practicing a lot more with Google Docs lately for other BYC projects I'm working on. I have figured out how to create a "Submission" form, which automatically drops the information submitted into a spreadsheet - pretty cool!

I scrolled back to look at your Mottled. Sorry we missed it. It's kind of hard to see his type from the pose. I hope others that work with Mottleds will chime in here. They will be able to tell you how the mottling will look as he ages, and if he is good breeding material. I think perhaps he has too much white on him - the mottling appears (to me) to extend farther up the feather shafts than it should. With Mottleds, various body sections should have a certain number of mottled tips - i.e. every feather; one in two feathers; one in three feathers. But the Mottling is supposed to be a v-shaped tip.

It would be nice if Cochins International had a breeder directory similar to the one the Ameraucana Club has. It lists only members and tell which varieties they have and if they ship or deliver to shows, by age group. CI has a list of members websites, but it seems in need of updating as several of the links don't work, and not everyone has a website.

Yeah, my current flock is all standard size and I didn't want to have a few poor banty hens in there all by themselves with a bunch of bigger hens

Thank you anyway though, I really appreciate it!

I think I have 1 barred, 2 partridge, and 2 something, the dark red one and the black one, both of them have gold lacing on thier wing feathers, but they don't sell LF Gold laced.....Hmmm... anyone know?

One partridge cochin chick hatched under my broody partridge hen Louise! Yeah!!!! I was beginning to think I would only have mille fleur chicks this season; 20 so far and 30 eggs in the incubator now. If this group hatches like the last (9 of 9) I am in trouble - Milles like Tribbles on the Enterprize!

Hello everyone!
I've had Cochins for several months now and am stuck with a few questions. I'll be showing my birds on Wednesday.
I hope you guys can help me out.

Do Cochins have a "cape"?
Do they have sickle feathers? If so, how many and where are they located?
How many varieties are there?

Thanks guys!
