My blue cochin pullet about 5 weeks old. Do they calm down after they mature? Everything I've read says they're friendly but this chick hates being handled and will scream bloody murder if you dare pick her up.
Quote:
Don't give up on her - some just need to be handled constantly - more than once daily. Give her treats, cuddle her close to your chest so she can feel your heart beating. Some have a sweet spot they love to have scratched (gently!) - behind their ears, back of their neck, on their crop.
If that doesn't work, you could always send her to me! She looks adorable!

I have noticed that flighty pullets often become calm and sociable once they start to lay.

They do get more friendly when older, but you will still have to spend time holding them, and spending time with them. One tip I have learned is that when you pick them up and they throw a fit, don't put them down. They learn that if they throw a fit you will let them go. Instead, simply restrain them until they calm down and relax, after they relax for a while then you can put them down. They learn in order to get down they just relax. It's a time thing really. The more time you spend with them, the more they figure out you are not a threat and will trust you. Don't give up
