With the BYC Search function under the weather lately, thought I'd ask here. Anyone raising Silver-Penciled Bantam Cochins? I would love to see some pics posted, and learn a bit more about how well the color and pattern breed true from one generation to the next. Any info on this color variety would great!
I've been looking for a Cochin thread since I started on the forum. Here are a couple shots of our Cochins. These are the first chickens that we've love 'em.
Should I post any questions that we have about them here?
So, it looks like my 6 BCM eggs are not going to hatch. I'm trying to make the best of the situation & focus on my remaining eggs:
I have 18 eggs in the incubator now:
6 Black cochins
6 blue cochins
2 of my partridge cochin buff brahma cross eggs
6 BLCR eggs
So far I think I have 6 I may have to pull, but will wait until day 14 & lockdown to pull any this time.
I eventually want to go all cochin & am looking for some LB cochin eggs. Can anyone hook me up?
I am so glad to find this I just got 2 cochins so I'm new to them. I have been given mixed opinions on Lilly my partridge cochin but she looks like some others on here so I hope she is pure cochin if not we just have a great chicken.
OMGosh!!! yeah for cochins.
I have too busy waiting on baby goats to even find this thread, I bet everyones gone now
I will tell you about my babies anyway.
I have 1 female barred cochin hen who is my favorite and sings a doo doo doo dit do do song. She is the only one allowed to come in the house at her free will because she is an awsome cleaner upper! my dog is picky about the foods she will eat off the floor thats why Gerti is the one for the job and I also have Mr. mouth he's the boss of all the roosters(black) He chases off spanish who is a little spit fire rooster. Mouth protects all the kids from him.
and finally Bobby Dean who is a beautiful buff colored who has the sweetest personality. I just got what I think is a blue cochin chick !!! hope so .
I need more hens . my Gerti is wierd she hates any babies we have and she has NEVER gone broody and she just turned 3
weird I tell ya. but I am hoping to mix it up this year I finally got silkies too so I wanna mix the cochins and silkies and then make more cochin babies. I want everyone I see on here. Everyones are so pretty!!!!
thats my little cochin family.

I would imagine a standard sized cochin could easily raise 8-10 babies. I only have bantam sized and they can raise about that many of the bantam chicks without too much effort.
