Cochin Thread!!!

Yep, it is in fact true, however you guys in the UK have better birds and more accepted colors than we do here in the states. The Crele is one of the most beautiful varieties that you have. I think the only place that has equivalently beautiful Cochins would be Australia.
Lucky you

I guess that means I should get more chickens!

The Creole project chickens looked very good. So it looks like the States is catching up with the colors.

I do have another question. Why is the color called both Creole and Crele? It is under both names here. Some breeders use one, some the other and a few use both!

Now, At some point I've got to go and find the Bantam Orpington thread (oldest DD's), the Polish thread (both DSs' and youngest DD's) and the D'Anvers thread (DH's). I found this one first because the Cochin's are mine!

Hi mucky puppy and welcome to BYC

I was curious about your chickens and looked around a little. According to wikipedia, pekins are a true bantam breed with no large fowl counterpart. Here is the link.

There is apparently some debate about whether the are a separate breed from bantam cochins or not according to other websites

I would love to see pictures of your birds

Do you belong to Cochins International? They publish a Master Breeders Points List by Class/Variety. It's always a great place to start when looking for good SQ.

No and I probably should. I think I belong to just about everything else.

Here's the link to Cochins International - there is also a link on their website for the membership form. There is still (limited) time to join and still be included in the 2011-2012 Breeder's Directory, which is currently in the works for publication this fall.
