Cochin Thread!!!

NO!, I wanted to have this little one for my son. The bantam Brahmas I got for him are little pyrahnas. Or pitbulls...they nail you and hold on.

Oh, I am sorry to hear about the bantam Brahmas! I love Brahmas but I only have LF and they are kind birds.
I think the bantam Mottled Cochins are really a great breed and variety. The little boys can get hormonal around 6-8 weeks and we start training then for having good manners. If I don't pick them up quite often (a few times a week or more) they will latch on to me when I scoop my hand under their body to pick them up.
Be glad you have a sweet girl! Mine have been very easy to work with all through their lives. I enjoy those pullets and hens and I am sure your son will enjoy this young lady, too.

Charlie,
genetics can do a good bit but it takes good nutrition and a healthy environment for them to grow up and look good.
Never underestimate how badly good birds can look with neglect.

You have done a great job making these birds look their best!

I got my first Giant Blue Cochin pullet about 5 months or so and I have to say that I am hooked!!! My friend Sherry (daze333) who lives in Pt. Angeles raises them and got me hooked. Athena as she is called is a beautiful bird and if I could figure out how (and if she would hold still enough for a pic:idunno) I would post pictures... I am thinking about joining FFA and showing her in the County fairs next year. Better her than my other option who is a GLW and bites every hand or arm that comes near her

If you are planning to exhibit you need to refer to her as a Large Fowl, not a "Giant". There are no "Giant" Cochins.

So sorry none of us answered your questions.
I am not sure any of us breed LF Frizzles, you may want to try over on the LF Cochin thread.
And I must say that I struggle to name any of mine and so often of the more than 500 chickens I have here not all of mine are named. You have to live with the name so you should pick it out. Maybe ask that over on the LF Cochin thread, too.

This is the only post I have found from you other than complaining that none of answered it. I am very sorry you feel this way about our wonderful Cochin thread. I often post without anyone answering and I have never had a fit over it. I really can't understand your attitude about our thread.

I've posted questions in the past that have gone unanswered, but I understand. I just try again later. Sometimes people are really "into" their discussions, and it is difficult to answer everyones questions. I often don't reply to questions posted by others because I just don't feel qualified to answer or have no experience with the issue. Speaking of "into" discussions, the recent genetics discussions is WAY over my head!

This is a great thread and I hope no one gets hard feelings about it. I don't post as often as others here, but I do read most of what's here.

P.S.- I am STILL looking for some show quality black bantam cochin pullets or hens to put with my old rooster.

At this point I would probably be interested in an unrelated cockerell, too, "just in case." I will be at the Sedalia, MO show in Oct. and could meet someone there.

Ivy, You might try sending some PM's to some of the BYC members on our Cochin Breeder List (link in my sig line). Females are obviously harder to come by without pairing them up, but you may get lucky. And you may find someone that can ship to you once the weather cools. Hope that helps.
