I have this little bantam cochin I am trying to figure out what color he is! I thought it was a birchen when I first got him, but the coloring is not right now feathering out. The feathers are coming in black with brown splashes on them? I got it from Ideal and I don't really see a color that matches him?

Yeah, and I still don't know if its a boy or girl. I just can't tell with the bantams. Maybe I just don't want to face the fact it's a cockerel because it is such a sweetie.

If you don't know then you have a pullet!

Show me another photo of the head from the front and side and by now I can definitely tell you but at this age you would know if you had a boy! Those combs are big and red.
I just went through this with a friend that hatched eggs from me and as soon as I saw the comb I knew it was a girl. Her family had been telling her girl but she wanted a boy. I think she was in denial because the pullet was 5 months old and very obvious to me when I saw the photos.

Anyone planning to attend the Sedalia, MO show in October that would have some very nice SQ bantam black cochins please send me an email or PM. I will be attending the show and am still looking for some nice pullets or hens to put with my old roo. I will probably be looking for an unrelated cockerell, too, just in case my old guy doesn't get the job done.
