The Black rooster is the Cackle bird? If this is the case, I would strongly advise that you look for a different rooster to use. Now is a good time to look for one also, there will be breeders that are ready to clear out this years discards and you should be able to find a very nice bird.
I just looked at this again and I'm confused, are you breeding to a Black or a Splash? Unless your hen is VERY dark, I wouldn't breed to a Splash, I might be wrong but I would be afraid of getting too many washed out Blues, but I'm sure you'd get a number of Splash. I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember the % of what colors you'll get.
It's ...
Blue X Splash = 50% Blue , 50% Splash
Blue X Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
The black cockerel is my own. He's not from a hatchery, I bought him from a breeder that was selling on ebay. I could look up who. The splash is owned by a friend of mine and he's from Cackle. The hen is too dark, not super, but not powdery either.
Here's some picture of the young ones. These pictures are from 2 weeks ago.
In this picture you can see the gold developing, although it's much worse now. She has 3-4 full lacings of gold.
And I believe the breeder for the cockerel was http://www.orpingtonimports.com/
