Cochin Thread!!!

Merry Christmas!
All my birds are singing a fine tune this morning with warm oatmeal and meal worm treats.
It is a cloudy 45 degrees but tolerable.
Have a happy Cochin Christmas!

Mr. Ree :

I got some pics today and wanted to share a few with you guys. If you click the website link under my name you can see many more. These are just a few that stood out to me. (Took this pics at feeding time so overlook the full crop and wet breasts most of them have, lol. And sorry for so many pics, I get carried away so easily...)

I also got updated pics of the little Pyle colored frizzle cockerel I have, I managed to get some close ups of his color along his back and shoulders and in his cushion. As I mentioned before, he has a solid blac feather on his back, at the base of his cushion that is perfectly laced in the light orange cream color he is showing. His father was a DEEP Red frizzle cockerel and his mother was a White smooth pullet, and neother bird had any black on them anywhere, I have looked several times, even after their moult. This Cockerel has solid red and buff feathers in his cushion too, but the most of it looks to be white. Its strange, but I cant wait to see this bird mature more and see what I get. He is the start to my Red breedings. Crossed in White for type thinking that the White would be recessive and the bird would turn out mostly Red or a dingy red, not the case.(Again, sorry for so many pics.)

They are all so beautiful!

One day I may get some white Frizzles but for now all I have are the white Cochins and since their white is recessive I get lots of other pretty colors when breeding them to my Frizzles.

Mr. Ree :

It wasnt that warm here, but it sure wasnt terribly cold. I think it got to 56 here today. The birds loved the sunshine.

~Casey

Yes the SUNSHINE!!! It was heavenly. Sounds like we had very similar weather.

Wow those pictures are BIG.

My lil ole computer cant handle them.

I can view one at a time though. I usually go to the library for all the stuff my computer doesnt let me see. So I have to make a list.

Has anyone ever gotten white cochin bantams from McMurray Hatchery? I am sure most of the hatchery birds arent that good, but I am wondering about the white bantams. They talk them up a lot.

Depends if you want a bird that is what a Cochin should be or just a featherfooted white bird walking around in the yard. In my opinion it is mostly talk as most hatchery birds never have a chance when shown at even a county fair.
