My two Cochin bantams are three weeks old, and one of them has vulture hocks! Is this okay? will it get passed down the line if I breed it? Is it still showable? Is this normal? thanks

the youngsters usually appear to have vulture hocks at this age. you will need to see what they look like at several months old. if they have them still then it will be a dq for show

Vulture hocks are the long stiff feathers that grow downward from the thigh/hock. They are a requirement in such breeds as d'Uccles and Sultans, but are a DQ in Cochins. Young Cochins can often "look hocky". These feathers in a Cochin should be soft and pliable.
I have a question about the SOP. I purchased the copy from amazon, but turned out that is a reprint from the 1930's or something very old.Bantam Cochins have been recognized long enough that they are in this copy. Has the SOP for bantams changed over the years or would this information still be a correct guide for our breeding program? Thanks for any help.![]()
