Cochin Thread!!!

Not Blue Silver, Blue/Silver. I think she is refering to the actual coloring of the chicks, not the variety per say. The "silver" may be Splash?

Are you ready to do some reading?? Here's the Mille Fleur Cochin thread:

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/228613/mille-cochin-info/0_20

While there have been many various starts, the predominate start was Buff Columbian x Mottled.

Thank you Coopa Cabana. I love the Mille Fleurs so am going to do some reading.
I have bought a few eggs from fellow BYCers including Lynne. I only had one egg hatch that was mille fleur. Luckily if was a female! She is so pretty and just started laying in the past few weeks.

Finally!! 3 eggs in the coop this morning!! It's been a long winter - no eggs since October . . . I was beginning to wonder if they'd forgotten how.

Now it's time to hunker down and get to work.

Here south of Nashville ours have been laying since Feb 2. I want one hatch of cochin/silkies before I put them to work sitting on the guineas' eggs for the rest of the summer. The weather keeps yo-yoing so no one wants to go broody yet. Maybe mid-March.

Most of my pens have been laying all winter. The MF project birds especially. And they live in open tractors.
Now my precious housed whites have only started laying but the Mottleds are gaining speed and I have tons of the MF chicks and Mottled chicks hatching out.
Our winter has been very nice so far. I think the birds have enjoyed it.

Sorry, I'm still terribly new to this new addiction of mine :) I am referring to blue Cochin, I thought I read about a silver variety also, but could be so wrong lol. My 16 day old babies are blues. They are so sweet and gorgeous. I was hoping to see pics of different stages of development. One is a little smaller than the other and I'd be thrilled if one was a roo. One was my " surprise mystery chick".. one I ordered. So happy with them.
