Update on the chicks that arrived 2 weeks ago. I ordered 5 Bantam Blue Cochin's and got 6 but 1 died a couple of days after arrival.
None of them are Blue. They are Black with some white on their wing feathers, which I hear can be common in black chicks and goes away as they molt.
Please tell me if I am wrong, Here are some pics

And here are some blue babies i got from a gal in Vancouver as a trade for some Mille Fluer D'Uccle cockerels. The darker one has blue in it's fluff just trying to figure out if it will actually have any blue when it feathers out. Color Suggestions?

Sorry so pic heavy! I know I did not get blue Cochins from the hatchery. but how when i ordered blue did i end up with all black, the chick that passed was the darkest and had the blackest down.

Making an assessment from a picture is very difficult but from what I think I'm seeing I believe you have Blue chicks. There is such a wide range of color when breeding Blues that you can have chicks that look black but when they mature - sometimes after the first or second molt - they develop the very desirable Navy Blue color. A lot of folks like the light blue color, and it is pretty, but it is not what you try to breed for if you are an exhibitor.
As far as how you could end up with Black chicks when you ordered Blue, you are working with the Andalusian gene which produces Blue, Black and Splash. The only way that you can end up with 100% Blue chicks is to breed a Splash colored bird to a Black bird. Looking at the first pictures of your chicks where you are showing the white feathers, I suspect even more that they are Blue. That just looks more like the white I've seen on the Blues than on the Blacks.

I am getting a better idea of what to look for.

I see, what it looks like in those chicks is that some do have some blue in their wings. I had some blues last year that were really dark, but when they were about 5 months I noticed they had changed to a lighter blue color.

so I suppose if you wait for them to go through their baby molts it may lighten up. may :)
