We found our only mature cochin pullet dead in a nest box today. She was laying belly up without a mark on her.
All I can figure is that she broke her neck when she flew in. She had been acting broody the last several days. I have 14 of her babies growing, 7boys, 7 girls, and the daddy roo. I felt like the pullet had better type than the roo, he is to upright and not round enough in my opinion. So I don't think I really want to put him over his own daughters because I could lose type. I don't know what to do!
This is my roo, and the pullet I found dead today. Her babies aren't three months old yet, I don't know how they will turn out yet.
Any thought from the experienced breeders? These are my daughter's 4H project, and I am her project leader. Where do we go from here?
I don't supposed any one has any partridge bantam eggs, chicks, or decent culls they would want to sell?
Thanks for any help and advice.
