Cochin Thread!!!

Hi everyone-

I am new to the thread, but am very interested in getting involved with showing my cochins. I have a few that I have picked out to try and show this fall. I was wondering if I was on the right track though. I have only been a spectator at a few poultry shows and have never entered anything, but I would like to this year.

Can anyone offer any advice or comments?
I am attaching a picture of a 4 month old standard blue pullet.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look!

is there some place that i can find the SOP for color requirements of certain varieties? i saw the basics at cochins int, but it doesn't go into details on color specifics... specifically partridge and birchen, since those are new colors to me that i might be interested in, since i do have 2 nice blue partridge girls to work with and the little birchen girl is growing on me...

I will tell you what I should have told Reyvaughn earlier today. The only place for that information is in either the APA Standard of Perfection or the ABA Bantam Standard. I don't know how anyone can try to breed good birds without owning and using 1 or both books as a reference. I raise both Partridge and Birchen and would not attempt to accurately describe either without using
material that is copyrighted.

and unfortunately doctor's bills are taking all my spare money, or i would have before now. what i do have goes to the critters and food and that's it... if i can ever get back to working a full week then maybe. as it is hubby paid for the gas for me to go pick up a nice girl a bit over a week ago from a show a couple hours north. he's supporting my 'habit' LOL

you might check out the cochin breeder's directory... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/446055/2012-cochin-breeders-directory and send some PM's to those on the list that have what you're looking for.
and welcome to byc. care to introduce yourself and your birds?

K Right now i have no birds i have bin with out birds for 5 long years lol. I moved from NC. to IL. in late 07.

Thanks! It was their first time out and they didn't know what to think just yet, but they'll get the hang of it.
Those older chicks in my avatar, as soon as I snapped that pic they jumped down and ran over to me to climb on my lap.

I feel like a big kid bringing my chickies out to play.. LOL I've introduced my hubby to chicken TV and he really enjoys it! Not to mention how involved my daughter is in all things chicken; even "peeping" at the eggs as they hatch in the incubator!
