Cochin Thread!!!

I posted a couple days ago about my girl Vera...a thought just occurred to me to ask you guys about this funny thing she does: when I come near her to pet her, she squats down like she's ready to mate. When I bend down to stroke her back, she gets really into it and makes these silly grunting sounds. Do anyone else's birds do that??

I have a Rhode Island Red / buff Orpington cross, and she squats for me when I pet her. I think I heard something about the hen is recognizing your dominance? Anyway, some of my hens also start peeping/cheeping vigorously when petted (no Cochins yet, hoping to add one or two...) so the vocalizing may be a variant of that.

In my earlier question about using Cochins over chicks, I was referring to the number of standard size chicks under a standard size (Large Fowl) hen.
dorkings are similarly sized and loose feathered (tho more horizontal than vertically oriented), and my girls are able to cover 10-12 lf chicks easily.

Just thought I would ahere some pics of my Cochins-

Does anybody know what Jamie Matt's prices usually are???

I have been resisting the urge all winter to hatch eggs..... That is until yesterday, I set the incubator up yesterday and set 30 eggs today! I have been trying to wait until the first week of February to hopefully get past the worst of winter before they hatch but I didn't make it!
I have had so many eggs I can't eat enough or sell enough! So now I am incubating. We will see what I get.

Hi everybody................ newbie here

How many of you have bantam cochins that can breed naturally ? With out plucking or cutting feathers.

Just doesn't seem right if an animal can't reproduce naturally. Thanks

Mine do. I have not plucked or cut any feathers. I will however artifially insiminate this spring just to make sure I get what I want.
some cochins have no problems but it is not uncommon to pluck or trim feathers to help out.
