Cochin Thread!!!

If you put it in the mail today, it should get to Indiana by the 7th. Why not give it a try? Be sure to stick a note on it and ask Matt to please let me know as soon as he gets it so that you can enter the show.
I won't make it. I'll have to get a money order for the membership fe and my car croaked so I can't go anywhere for a couple of days.

There will be more online shows, right?

edit:
Gail, I saw on the CI Facebook page you can now pay for your membership with PayPal. If I do that and email you the membership application, will that work out so I can enter the online show?

I was looking at my Cochin babies again tonight. It looks like I have two roo's, a pullet, and one I'm not sure on. The one I'm not sure about growth is stunted of unknown causes. She resembles a week old chick while the others are in their awkward teenager stage. I have some questions about the feathering in of their legs. Will post pics later.

I have more chicks that don't seem to thrive when I raise them in the winter. I think I will not do that next winter. Ha! I say that now but........

I have 16 chicks from an order of hatching eggs that I ordered from Lucky Pickens. There is one normal calico (boy :/ ), several blue calico (all boys :( ), a bunch of silver laced (I think a few are pullets!), a few splash (I think they're all boys), a couple black/blue mottled (mainly boys) & I have a couple that I think are just blue (pullets, I believe). They're nearly a month old. There are a few I can definitely tell are cockerels (crowing ALREADY!) but several that I can not yet tell! Isn't that weird? I would love to post photos but my laptop is currently out of comission and all I have is my tablet which is a pain to upload pics from.

I have hatched Roslyns eggs twice. Out of 4 dozen total I have hatched 3 pullets, and the rest were roos. Not sure what is in the water out there, but I sure do love my pullets. I have found a man who takes my roos to either rehome eventually, add to his own mixed breeders, etc. He has a huge place and can do that. I cannot. You are welcome to send him your roos if you need to rehome them. If you want his info let me know.

I was only able to hatch 4 chicks from 3 dozen of her eggs. Shipping was pretty rough on them. When they were about 7 weeks old, I was sure that they were all boys. They had large combs for such a young age, but after another month, it became clear that there was only 1 boy and 3 girls. Are they still young? Maybe they just need more time. It's odd to have that many boys, but not impossible.

As far as the roosters go, I wish there was someone like that around here. That's really nice of him to take in roosters. I'm trying to rehome 4 or 5 of mine right now and it's a very slow process. It takes me forever to decide who stays and who goes (I love them all) and then when I finally make the decision, no one wants them.

Last time I got lucky, a man came with his daughter to pick out a rooster for their flock and they loved him so much, they came back for another and told their friends how incredibly friendly our roosters were. That time, they went pretty fast and each one went to a great home.
