at that age, it's hard to tell... my red pullet hatched out similarly marked (but more golden than that) and has feathered out a nice dark solid red.

hatched out with "chipmonk" strips down the back?? i have never heard nor seen that on a red, yes they do have lines but not of this color that i have seen....lol i will know what color and sex for sure it is in 8 weeks

just 2nd guessing myself (which i seem to do on my own birds lol)

ok, well the inbetween pics i couldn't find... i did find one of her on hatch day. still a bit wet. the stripes weren't real dark, but they were there. then she started out looking like a pale partridge with the striping on her wings but they faded as her new feathers came in dark red.

Ok I it was finally warm enough today I could finally get out and get pictures of my roosters. I'm not showing them so their not show quality, but would like to hatch more calico/mille's and different colors. Here is what I have or what I think I have by labels of the eggs, any good recommendations as to who to put with who? I plan on putting the 2 splash together and the 2 silver laced together but curious what to do with others. I really didn't want to have to order more eggs and was hoping to have pairs this year but didn't work out that way. I lost a nice mottled rooster and a lavendar hen over the winter so far.

This one was labeled blue columbian, I really like his coloring. I can't find a picture of one to compair. Any one know if this is a blue columbian and which hen I could pair him with.

This one was labeled mille. His neck is brownish/red colored and chest has black mottled look.

Then my hens: This one marked mottled but very little white, I have 2 like this.

Mille that someone said is a mottled, and supposed to be buff columbian, someone said it's calico (I was wondering what babies would look like from the blue columbian rooster and hen to the right???

Then splash hen which is going with my splash rooster.

My silver laced rooster will go with my silver laced hen.

My silver laced hen and lavendar hen (they are not laying yet they were hatched end of september)

she was killed by some dogs now i have blue and black mottleds, buff, and red...then there is this little one who is the odd ball lol also one thata either black or black mottled (leaning towards solid black though)

I don't remember my silver penciled chicks looking like this so i will have to rely on others.

He looks really good Craig! This should be a lesson to all of us to hang on just a little longer and don't be so quick to judge unless there are obvious DQ's

This picture above is from November of 2011 at the CI Western National at Iowa City of the Buff Columbian that was Reserve of Breed at the Central Florida Poultry Breeders Association show Feb 23, 2013. He looks even better now than he did then. I guess with patterned birds we have to keep them long enough to really reach their potential. They will already be showing type at a young age but these pictures sure revealed how at least one bird can mature into something better. This was a first for me to place a patterned bird higher than a Best of Variety designation. Picture below is of him now about 14+ months later.


Thanks to Jacki Jordan (Mystic Farms) for taking this picture for me at the show. My Camera died at the show when it got covered in VetRx (my fault). I know it is time to get a camera that is at least this good now that I am in the market for a new camera.

that clutch consisted of red partridge silver laced and buff. i lost the partridge cockerel and the buff pullet to hawks. i've still got the red pullet, 2 silver laced cockerels and another partridge pullet.

i'm hoping to get some more red partridge and silver laced eggs soon. i've given up on trying to get some hatchery chicks... I do plan to purchase a pair of gold laced fron duane urch later this summer when he has some available.

very nice. well, it looks like all my hopes will be placed on that little red pullet i showed above. a predator got the red girl i got from casey yesterday... raccoon i'm guessing. pulled her thru the wire of the pen..

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. Will it ever end??? I lost 23 to a Bobcat 2 weeks ago & Nancy's barn burned on Sat. Sometimes it is really hard to stay positive. {{{{HUGS}}}}
