Cochin Thread!!!

question-Does or has anyone used wire cages for breeding pairs (bantams)? I want a tempory situation to put a pair in until we get my second breeding/show pen this summer..and my plan just fell through.

Was thinking of getting 24w x 24h x 36L, not sure if this is to small? I was quoted $35 per cage, not sure if thats a fair price or not.-Need something I can put on a table in the garage until it warms up, and I can reuse this size for a brooder in a month.

My original plan was to put them in our extra large water trough and put wire across the top, but we need it for the cattle right now.
What about using a large dog crate for a temporary solution? One of the black ones with a plastic tray in the bottom that collapses down flat when you aren't using it. You could purchase one new, or find one pretty cheap on craigslist I imagine. It wouldn't be difficult to modify the bottom with some sort of plastic to keep in the wood shavings.
