Cochin Thread!!!

Can some please tell me why this mottled pullet is driving me nuts?! The person I bought the eggs from said they were pure Cochins. Mwhahaa! Jokes on me. One came out with a beard! But this girl... Obviously her head is wrong and she's always been lacking in cushion (just started to get one, actually). Is she pure or no (I am doubting it)?

And finally... The new blacks!

^ The pair from Jamie Matts. The cockerel is still fighting pneumonia. He's from a Sept 2012 hatch and she is from an early 2012 hatch.

^ The other 2 girls. The one on the left is the one I said isn't as wide as I'd like. No idea what their age is, but they've laid every day since they got here.
Why do you say pneumonia? Not a common problem. I'd be asking someone on here what to do for this and not mess around to long. You could loose your bird if you don't get on it quick. Respiratory issues are common and can be easily treated if you use the right stuff, but as I said you can loose them pretty quick if you don't take care of it using the right stuff on the right diagnosis. I know you've waited a long time for them and I'd hate to see you loose your bird/birds.

He was hauled in the back of a truck, in a tote with drilled holes during rain. Another BYCer got a mottled hen from him and it wasn't pneumonia, it was an acute respiratory infection. He's been on Tylan for 4 days. He doesn't have a runny nose now, has all but stopped sneezing and he doesn't sound congested.

Care to share any insight on that ugly mottled pullet?

Could someone explain how willow legs work?

Is it possible for chicks with yellow legs to come from parents who both have willow legs?

Yes it is possible to have chicks with yellow legs from a parents with willow legs. I would get all yellow legged males from a partridge breeding of a good willow/green legged hen and a yellow legged male. The pullet chicks were either all willow legged except for 2 and all yellow legged (males). I did not keep the male chicks from that hen because I did not know if they would be carriers of off colored legs.

Don't know if I helped answer your question but that is my experience with off colored legs.

Still has some developing to do. Mottled doesn't give you an idea of the pattern until 8-10 months. She still has that white chest that will probably disappear after her next molt. Her eye color looked very dark in the picture. How is her eye color. Post pics after next molt and we can give you a better critique. Mottleds take time and are always changing.

Ok so I'm bumping this, because this thread moves fast! I really need advice on this little chick. I think cockerel, but squats when petted, I think its trying to crow. Very confused. Thanks!
Okay, so this is my little partridge cockerel. He tried to crow the other day. 6 weeks old. When will his colors start to change to the typical roo color? (Top pic is just a baby pic I love of him)

Thanks Craig

I'm more wondering if you can get chicks with yellow legs if BOTH parents have willow legs.

My silver laced hens have yellow legs, but my rooster has willow legs. I'm buying the hen that I asked about earlier, and she has willow legs. When bred to my rooster with willow legs, will they ever be able to produce chicks with yellow legs?

I do have one other silver laced cockerel with yellow legs, but he came from a hatchery so I don't know what to expect of him.
