cute self-blue barredUpdated pics of my Blue Barred pullet. She is the sweetest thing. I bought another Blue Cochin chick but it got hung between the feeder and side of the brooder and I wasn't able to revive it. So I'm on the look out for more. Sweet Lula Bell is about 10 weeks old. There isn't anything wrong with her wing in the first pic. I think she was fixing to take off. What do y'all think? I think she looks good to have come from a feed store.![]()

Quote: guessing you want to work on black tailed reds? i have a black tailed red (w/ minimal columbian markings) cockerel from my mille fleur pen i'm going to be working into my reds that are growing out... he's on the smallish side, but i think that can be worked with, if the color carries over. i'll be posting pics of my reds once they're feathered in. right now they're about 3 weeks old. the cockerel is closer to 6 months.
I'm letting all my broody hens keep their eggs and I've turned off my incubators
I'm overstocked with red chicks and started reds.
Same with my mille, porcelain and brown red d'Uccles.
I have columbian chicks hatched from purchased eggs - hoping for at least a breeding pair.
And one of my buff hens has gone broody, so that's really exciting.
Gorgeous birds Joanie! Is your broody buff out of Jimmy Buff'ett & Margarita? I haven't gotten any eggs from them yet, but they are improving.![]()
Quote: We haven't finished our Cochin coop yet, but I put a 6" border around the perimeter of the run with landscape timbers and sod. The rest of the run will be sand but we got hit with a storm Friday and there are downed trees between the sand pile and the coop. My thoughts are that with a small border they can peck at it but should stay off it. I hope they get the memo. LOL! If you have a greenhouse you could swap out trays of grass periodically. I don't have one but it is on my wish list...
Beautiful bird!ok... what would you consider this guy? he's from my own breeding, of blue partridge split mille hens with a mille fleur/calico roo... I have another growing out much like him but a bit darker red with a much smaller tail/cushion. i'd almost be tempted to say red tailed black? red/Columbian? could he be used to work on a red tailed black line? anyone know what genetics are behind that variety? I can't seem to find much out about them. here's mills. (as a chick he had some white speckling, so we thought he'd be mille fleur). he belongs to a friend, but she needs to rehome him, so i'll be taking him back to find someone for him. (if he doesn't stay). forgive the odd pose. LOL and yeah his wings could be tighter. but i'm more interested in what color he might qualify as.![]()
