Cochin Thread!!!

i would also say 2,3,5 look like cockerels(6 possibly, hard to tell from the angle). But Don't know much about the large fowl breed, they dont strike me as being similar to the bantams at all. You have some nice looking birds there though, sorry about all the boys.

Anybody have any bantams near me

not sure what part of nc you're in, but I plan to set up all my cochins once the younger ones start laying. the hens are mostly broody right now.

I'll have red, silver laced, bbs, blue/black mottled and mille fleur. right now I've just got a couple mille babies growing out. one for sure pullet, a couple blue buff Columbian cockerels.

Thanks! I'm really afraid that all but the first one are cockerels. I've been told that the LF pullets don't usually get combs or wattles until just before they lay. With that in mind, I'll be definitely be choosing pullets from the new chicks. Can't start a flock with 6 roosters lol. Oh and thanks for the compliment on them...I bought eggs from a very reputable SQ line that seems to win a lot of the shows around here...I'm very happy with them

Finaly got trough the 1518 pages.
I saw some beautiful cochin bantams.
But it would have been better that the cochin and cochinbantams where in separate threads cause they have nothing to do with each other. A cochin bantam is not a smaller version of a cochin.

I had cochin bantams for a couple of years too. I had columbians and some other colours. But I was breeding with the black motleds and the blue motleds.

Here is a video of when I just started with hatching some chicks, those days I did not had problems with magpies and foxes so they could all ran free in the yard.

Here you can see my couple of columbians, they got eaten by the fox, else I would still had them.

Here you can see my first motled ones: black motled, blue motled and 1 spalsh motled

My first motleds I hatched, I think:
Here where my F1 generation birds to improve the type of my motled ones. The 2 black hens witch they came from where also eaten by the fox.

And here where 4 of the F2 generation birds. But then I sold all my cochin bantams and started breeding Minorca bantams and Ancona bantams.

I just wanted to say that I think Cochin bantams are the best little chickens! We have 2 that we bought last year, that was our introduction to them. It's been love ever since! They are easy to keep, very friendly and don't take up a lot of space. The hens are so sweet and docile, they love to hop up in my lap and settle in. The roosters are also gentle and sweet, but a little too manly to sit in my lap! I would recommend this breed to anyone but especially those new to chickens or with little space.

OH!!! my goodness!! Your hens are absolutely gorgeous, beautiful type. I'm assuming that you must AI to get fertile eggs. They take my breath away.

Seriously?? I'm shocked, I can't get fertile eggs from my birds that have the type that your hens show unless I either trim/pluck their hind ends or AI. Wish I knew the difference.
