Cochin Thread!!!

what variety, if I might ask? I think sometimes it might be easier on some even, to add a mutation that you can track down visibly, because it's easier to weed it out later. but it depends on what you're working for and working towards.
Columbians. I am trying to breed them to the point they might be able to compete for BB or better with Black, White, Mottled, Blue Bantam Cochins. I already know I have some good Cochins but my best still can't compete with the best of those varieties.

UPDATE! Here is my Partridge Cochin Chick I am leaning toward pullet because the feathering is all black and gold penciling, no red or black splotches. So here is the little Chicky again. It is 5 weeks old now.

I have donated 3 pairs of quality young Cochin bantams to the Cochin International Youth Program this year. I was extremely impressed with the 3 young people who got those birds. It is a program that I hope Cochins International continues. Information on it is on the website under Junior News. It is not a give away program but a way to start deserving youth with quality birds. Youth that are accepted are expected to breed the pair and donate birds to another youth the next year.

wow, that's great craig! I love hearing stories from kids who got birds like that and how they did with them. I miss being part of 4H when I was in college, helping kids out with their rabbits and poultry, but I never have enough time to do the stuff I want, let alone anything else it seems now. LOL

also no more rabbits. bunny comes home, it goes in the freezer. LOL same for goats and anything else non-chicken that comes home from a swap. LOL

Awesome! What a wonderful thing...I love helping 4H, and you have given them a great start!
