Cochin Thread!!!

Do any of you have experience with barred cochins? I was wondering if the same rules apply as they use for rocks. I'm guessing sex on my 2 week old bantam cochin, who is getting barring on its wings and has a white spot on its head.

Hey All, been away and busy, but i finally have progress on my improving partridge project. I had to introduce new blood into my partridge line to improve size and vigour.

This is a pullet i used from a partridge X recessive white. She was showing the most signs of patterning in the f1 and so i selected her for the project.

She carries recessive white, mottling and is split on the e locus for partridge.

These are the first few chicks from the project, and are a lot more promising then i was hoping for.

i was expecting a 50/50 split between the partridge and extended black base, but got lucky and got a lot more partridge then black.

Here are a few others that hatched a week earlier. 1 partridge, 1 black, 1 mottled and 2 white crested black Polish.

Does anyone in the Austin Texas area have a white Cochin hen, or older pullet (5 months and up)? I have a white frizzle roo that is my husbands favorite, but he doesn't have any hens. We would like to find a few girls for him.

Congrats!
But a huge huge warning. ..

Their adictive!

It's too late I already want more!

I think I have a blue and a splash. One has primary wing feathers showing mostly white feathers coming in and the other has blue ones coming in. The splash's wing feathers are more developed than the blue's even though they're the same size/age. do you think I got lucky enough to get a pullet and a cockerel?

Eitherway... I'll *Need* more lol!

Do you know what type of cochin this is? And do you have any pics of the chick now? I know this was posted a while ago, but I just hatched out some mixed cochin babies and I have one that looks just like this. I was just curious :)

This is Bandit. I believe he is a barred or cuckoo bantam cochin. I have never had a friendlier chick. That's why I'm pretty sure its a boy. Not just friendly, in your business.

He likes to photobomb.......................
