Cochin Thread!!!

Hi Traci!
Im very new too! Lets compare! Lol. Id say yours looks more like a cockerel compared to mine. Mines the same age...but im NO expert!
Also ive read that their behavior cant determine their sex. BUT I believe with my current batch of chicks... the ones I THINK are cockerels have BIG attitudes and are more skittish. We shall see I guess! + My cochin is SO sweet...I HOPE shes a hen. Good luck with yours! Keep us posted!

The one I think is a rooster is a very sweet red, but knowing it was straight run I handled it a lot from the beginning in hopes that it would be more friendly if it was a rooster. He'll come right up to me. Our cochin is CRAZY. What's weird is both our silkie and cochin are the least friendly. I got them from a lady who has a bunch of silkies and cochins. We got these as more of our "pet" chickens, but if they're not very friendly then I'll probably have to get rid of them since they won't be good for meat or eggs.

Ya my silkies are NOT sweet at all, I got them for the same reasons...for pets & they are far from pet friendly : /

yeah my silkie is cool to look at and he is full of energy but definately not as loving and easy to handle as my cochins. Citygirl if you handle the cochins as much as possible they should come around to you because they are naturally a docile breed

Hi Traci never go by personality, I can't really tell from your pics but they look like pullets to me. I have a couple young cochin pullets and a roo and the comb and waddles are showing pullet to me BUT never count your hens until you hear one crow I have had several chickens I was told were hens looked like hens, had fast feather development etc etc and then one day I heard the fateful crow, its also been the same with ones I thought were roo's. Chickens can change looks very quickly so I always adivse to wait until you hear that crow! Try handfeeding and being around your chicks as much as possible this helps tremendously. All my chickens are handfed and come to greet me every morning when I let them out and when I walk up to visit, I see a diference in my friends who has never handfed and handles little, they act terrified of her! I know this is the cochin thread but folks on this thread are always so helpful and fast to respond I wanted to ask my question here too. If anything let me know whitch thread would be best to get my question answered.

I order 5 bantam chicks that arrive happy and healthy this morning. I didn't have time to take pics as I was running late for work but I will later and post them but I order
1 buff cochin
1 red frizzle cochin
1 silkie
1 mille fluer d'uccle
1 porcilain d'uccle
The porcilain is the one I had the q about.
The chick is a bantam, is the beautiful classic porcilan chick color with the silver and whitish/yellow coloring. BUT it's a very clean cut chick.it was the only chick with out leg feathering and doesn't look bearded at all. Any suggestions?

Here she is my little "supossed to be porcelain d'uccle" that I don't think is a d'uccle...
Any ideas now that you can see her?

I win them over when skittish with mealworms or grass clippings. Or even a lil pile of dirt so they see me feeding them. I also make clucking noises while pookin it with my fingers as a roo dose when feedin a hen or momma hen feeds a baby. That works to a lot of times as well.

I am so glad I am not the only one that does this

I use my hands to scratch in the dirt when I feed my girls and make clucking noises my family has seen me do it a couple times and thinks I am crazy!
