Cochin Thread!!!

When I read that they were big birds, I looked the name up. I saw a frizzle and I think I'd like one of those. I will look on Craigslist and see if there are any local that are selling eggs. I'm still not buying them to eat, although I will have to do something with extra roosters.

Are bantam cochins a lot bigger than a regular bantam? Thanks, Sylvia

No but they do LOOK larger, (mostly feathers).

Different breeds of bantams vary widely, so that's kind of hard to answer. A Bantam Cochin rooster will go about 32 ounces, a Sebright about 22, Wyandottes about 40, Bearded Silkies, about 40, and Old English Games about 24. As you can see, the Cochin bantams are a little above the midline in this range, but not at the top.

Do you know who might have pictures of Wyandottes posted?

Can any of these breeds be found in pure colors? I don't care what they throw, just what a particular bird might look like.

Oh, I saw a, I think it was a Cochin frizzle splash. Are they Banty size?

Hi! I REALLY want ( need :) ) LF Cochins. I have 30 or so bantams in my flock and told myself no more. Are there any breeders on the west coast who are good and selling eggs? Please please please! :)

I am no expert on Cochins, especially not banty Cochin. All I have are standard LF Partridge Cochins, but plan on getting some black Cochins sometime in the future. Looking thru a Cackle hatchery catalog, they have a large number of color varieties, both in LF and bantam sizes. Just in bantam, they list black, buff, red, partridge, birchen, white, splash, barred, silver penciled, golden laced, and blue. Sorry, no frizzles. Pretty much all the same colors are listed for LF Cochins.

There are several excellent breeders of LF Cochins on the West coast. My suggestions would be to look on the Cochins International website for the breeders and member links. You will find some folks to contact. You might also consider joining and you will get a Breeders Directory. That will have ALL member breeders, the varieties they raise and many others important bits of info.

These are my new babies! Love the little darlings.
There were only Cochin chickens in this coop. Any chance they can be late bloomers with the feathers on their feet?

This little gal is a late bloomer too?
