Cochin Thread!!!

I also just posted this on Pullet or Roo Thread.
Ok, I'm a little nervous! I have three Cochins all 12 weeks. I just got the lemon lace yesterday because I thought I was sure my black and buff Cochins were pullets. Please reassure me! The black and buff have been big from start and very fluffy with lots of feathers. Black had red comb and wattles for a while but she grew into them. The roo I got yesterday is smaller and definitely isn't as full feather-wise as the girls. When comparing the roo to my black pullet though, it seems her wattles and comb may be the same!! She also pecks at him, others might, too, but she really went after him in front of me. I hope she really is a pullet as I just want one roo.

Recently picked up two lf cochin hens. Curious about what color you think they may be? They're rough looking right now I know. I don't have them w/ a roo currently bc I felt they needed to heal and also I don't have a lf cochin roo.

And here's my little Mille Fleur cochin. I've wanted a trio of these for soooo long! (Still need two more to make that happen). This little gals flock was killed. She survived because she was broody and on a nest at the time of the attack so the stray dogs didn't see her. That's how I ended up w/ her. The people who owned her was so devastated by their loss and didn't want her to be alone. They plan to get more chickens in the future but not now.

Did she hatch any chicks? She's lovely.

The previous owner didn't have a roo. They ordered several chicks from a hatchery (I think the kids all got to choose some breeds so it was really varied). So the eggs this hen was setting weren't fertile.
I'd purchased a mottled cockeral to go w/ her but he died two days after I purchased him. :( Lesson learned. I put him in a xl dog crate w/ two large fowl cochin hens and they sat on him during the ride home permanently injuring him which led to his death.
I'm glad you like her. I know it's difficult to get good color and type on mille fleur cochins. I'm not breeding for show but I would like to have some good quality ones.

Here's my few day old mottled cochin bantam. Her name is Pebble.

She fell asleep to my hand heat.

Oh wow, sorry to hear that. Where are you located? There are alot of folks here with pretty mottleds and milles. I dont know much about either, as far as showing. I just know what my eye likes. But I did recently get a young mottled boy from another member here, and I just love him. So I'm learning.

This is George a couple of weeks ago. He's filling in very nicely.

Awww so sweet. Pebble is a cute name.

Are Cochin's more timid than other breeds? This is my first time with Cochin's.

I got two Cochin's 14 weeks ago (one black and one partridge) and raised them myself in a brooder w/ 4 Buff Orptingons. They all get along great and for a while I thought the black Cochin was the leader of the pack. But she is sooooo timid. Anytime I coax her out from under the coop, she's immediately looking up at the sky.

Her name is Henny Penny and I'm thinking I scared her w/ that name and she thinks the sky is falling.

She seems happy otherwise and with some work, I can coax her out to the garden w/ her other brooder mates and she'll eat and dust bath. But she's soooo shy and timid. Just curious if this is how the breed is or if I got one who is just extra timid and shy.

Ruff her back up a lil just like as a rooster was mounting her. That always seem to get the scared, shy timid ones to snap out of it for me. Then they become my lil buddies after that.
Its funny cause they even turn around and chest bump ya as they become very talkative. Lol
Lil cockerals do the same thing.

Have one who is timid as could be, 5 are what I think are normal first the breed and one who is an evil demon hen. The evil one runs off guineas even.
