Cochin Thread!!!

So through the membrane I can see what appears to be a small amount of yellow it doesn't look like yolk, it looks like pale yellow scrambled egg. The blood vessels are 99 percent gone. Just waiting a little longer but the yellow stuff is concerning. Any thoughts?

Probably just excrement.

I usually see a little gunk in the bottom of the egg after hatch, but can't normally see it on an assist, so its hard to guess.

chick is out. I believe it was just excrement. I had to snip the cord and it has a little bit of stuff on its belly button. It not yolk. It's resting in the incubator.

I feel really bad for my silver laced because she is consistently broody wanting to hatch eggs that aren't fertile.

I would be hatching any this year at least season because a friend of mine who had a roo to match her that I used for breeding had to move and the roo went with he. Poor girl I am about to buy an egg or two for her.

even though i've had Shadow for three years, i will be new to cochin chicks this year. i had a few last spring that i bought at the flea market and they didn't make it. one made it to 18 weeks but i noticed it looked younger than the red chicks i had at that age. so i'm wondering do cochins mature slower because of their size? and if so how long for them to grow up compared to other chickens?

Yes they mature slower then more common breeds. They can start laying anywhere from 5 to 9 months or longer. They get to full size around 6 but fill out after that usually.

Does anyone here know where I can get Mille Fleur or Buff Barred project bantams Cochins? I had them for a few years but sold my entire flock in 2015 and now I'm searching to get some more, but I can't seem to find them anywhere? I can pay for shipping. Any advice on where to go would be greatly appreciated. I'm also looking for blue Mottled. I have black Mottled from a Jamie Matts line now.
