Cochin Thread!!!

Really? The Bantam Cochin roosters I hatched last year started crowing (well, attempting to crow) when they were less than a month old, and I could tell they were roosters by their comb height and color a week or so before that.

Edited to add: A picture of my new little favorite Columbian chick (taken when he was 2 days old), and another taken at 2 weeks old:

Here are a few pics of my cochins from this year. I have never had cochins before and I have seriously been wanting them for a few years now. So thats what I asked for -- for my anniversary this year. And I LUV em.

They are 5 weeks old in this pic. I also got 6 standard buff cochin chicks but they are camera shy and kind of hard to get a pic of. In the blue color I got 8 babies but had to take straight run so don't know how many gals I will end up with.

I also have some bantam cochins that are 8 wks old this next weekend. The roos were plainly obvious at least 3-4 weeks ago. One has been crowing for 2 wks already!!! Check their combs and wattles....the bright red ones are your boys.

Very pretty! Your Splash is a boy, the others look like girls so far.

I ordered GL, Partridge, and barred and we are keeping one of each

Who can resist such cuteness! I love them, they are awesome.

TY all. I really love the cochins.!!!!! And I was excited to get a splash + all the other beauties that I got. Ended up getting 84 babies in all. I got the blue and buff cochins, light and buff brahmas, buff orpingtions and naked necks. And my freebie chick which I think is a dk brahma roo. I haven't heard any crowing as of yet . I noticed the red spots on Merlins (splash) neck one day last week. I thought someone had been pecking at him and he was bleeding. But I picked him up and seen what it was.

Between wattles and comb I kinda figured he was a roo.

My Cochin update:

Little Ricky grew up and wanted to be boss man. He started thumpin' the girls, biting my wife's hand and sparring with me. A few weeks ago, I gave him to a hungry family that wanted to go "dual purpose" on him. Ricky shows up and the man says "Ricky is too skinny to eat, we better fatten him up first
hide.gif
" and his wife says "Ricky is too beautiful to eat, we should get some Cochin girlfriends for Ricky to mate with and we could have a Cochin farm
love.gif
". I am glad that things worked out for him.

Shadoosh (Ricky's sister) went broody on us shortly after Ricky left

I had never seen a hen stay indoors all day
barnie.gif
, so I put some bricks in her broody corner, then she layed on the bricks. Then, I put a 1-gallon waterer on top of the bricks, then she went under the nest boxes, then she got over it and decided to live outside again

Lots of really cute Cochin chicks in this thread, just wait until they grow up...
