Cochin Thread!!!

Anyone want to venture a guess what this guy is carrying, color wise? Rooster was a buff (or possibly white) over a splash frizzle hen. This guy has barring on the tips of his primaries, and splotches of buff, red and blue on his body. Where did the barring come from? If the daddy was a buff, where is all the white from; if the daddy is the white, where is all the buff and red from?

I had a mille fleur (partridgy looking) pullet in the same pen, but she is not frizzled. Could the frizzle gene pop up even though it is not expressed in either parent? (Thinking this might explain the three colors. . .)

I'm pretty green at this, anyone have any ideas?

No idea on the color, MrsChickendad (I'm rubbish at chicken color genetics, but I'm starting to figure it out in ducks), but he really is gorgeous!

I've been trying to find some pics of juvenile Bantam Cochins, around 3 - 5 weeks, for both Golden Laced and Blues. Anyone have some they can post, or know where I can find some? I can find pics of day-olds and then older at a couple of months, but nothing in-between at a couple of weeks. Thanx!

I have some Gold Laced Cochin eggs in my incubator right now. They should hatch in about 10 days. I'll take some pics of their development as they grow and can send them to you.

I've had one heck of a time finding Gold Laced Cochin bantam eggs! I had a trio last year and they were killed and its taken me a year to find eggs again.

I also can't find Whites that aren't frizzled. All I want are plain old Whites.

Here's a couple of pics of the GL Bantams I've been able to hatch out so far. The first pair(?) is 35 days old; the 2nd pair(?) is 31 days old. I just wasn't expecting to see this coloring in the males(?). The pics of the dam and sire are on My Page, as well as pics of the first pair when they were a day old. I was able to hatch out 8 total before Marigold decided to go broody.
