Just got home from a visit to the Wisconsin International Poultry Club Show, and silly me - I got going late, and I was flustered because I was supposed to meet someone to pick up a pair of White Runner ducks I had pre-purchased, so I completely forgot my camera!

Anyways, I met Black Cochin Bantams there. It's ridiculous how many people recognize me from my avatar here on the site. I had at least 5 random people say to me, "Hey - I know you, you're on BYC!".

There was a pretty good number of Cochins entered. I should have entered my Whites and some Blue Mottles - there was only one Blue Mottled and one Black Mottled there, and they were both related to mine (or, at least, they came from the same breeder). Should have entered some of the Columbians too - Black Cochin Bantam's were the only ones there! Next spring, I'll so all my hatching early so that that year's chicks are a little more filled out by the fall shows. There were a ridiculous number of Bantam White pairs for sale, all of them just gorgeous (not quite as pretty as mine though!

). Wish you had been there, TennesseeTruly, I thought of you when I saw those sale cages packed with white fluff!

I saw some Bantam Buffs I was tempted to buy, but I don't need to get into anymore colors. I got home and one of my Columbian pullets had her comb all pecked, had blood running into her nostrils, and was sneezing the blood everywhere.

Ended up spending half of the afternoon getting her all cleaned up! Poor thing's comb was bleeding from three different places, but they're all little superficial cuts. She'll live, and I was about to separate them into the groups I want them in for breeding before the weekend's over anyways, so hopefully everyone will get along better then.

Oh, I didn't come home empty-handed!

I had pre-purchased an AWESOME pair of White Indian Runner Ducks. I purposely didn't bring any more carriers or boxes with me, because I really don't need any more birds right now, but I couldn't resist a little Self-Black Call duck from the same person I got my Butterscotches and half of my Whites from earlier this year...so I carried him around the show with me and he sat in my lap on the ride home!

I have some young Splash girls in the brooder right now, so I'm hoping they'll hatch some Blues for me in the spring.

Oh, and all of Columbia County and the city of Portage IS under a Flood Warning, and the fairgrounds where the show is held is only about 2 blocks from the Wisconsin River!

The river's supposed to crest tomorrow night, long after the show is over.

I didn't see any Mille Fleurs...I saw some Partridges in the Junior Show...gosh, I was so busy drooling over the Columbians and the Mottleds that I really didn't notice if there were any Golden Laced or not!

There WAS a fantastic Brown-Red hen there though! She's owned by theimis67 here on BYC, I think he's working on a Lemon-Blue project. I'm pretty sure there's a picture of his Brown-Reds on his BYC page.

Thought I'd post some updated pics of my "ugly ducking" Golden Laced Bantam roo, Calypso. He's 4 months old now, and I still remember when he was just a chick, saying "What the heck is this?"

At 1 month - coloring was so far off from what I was expecting, but there was just something about him - probably because I'm such a sucker for heavy foot feathering:

At 2 months - well, at least he's developing some color, but what in the world is happening on his breast, and where did all the white come from?:

At 3 months - his conformation is really coming along nicely - wish the pattern would join the party:

And today at 4 months - my ugly duckling is transforming in to a beautiful Golden Laced!! I love his type and coloring, and look at the lacing that his breast has now! He still has some remnants of white, but they seem to lessen every day. And just look at that beautiful cush!!:
