Cochin Thread!!!

davony's chicks :

Good luck Mrs Fluffy Puffy! My new want is the self blues. I gotta have some.

Me too. My neighbor is incubating some for me. I hope I get some to hatch. I got them in the mail and that drops fertility rates.

Could those be considered "Self Blue" Cochins?

Question for you breeders who ship your birds all over the country (especially you, cochinman2005!) - what do you vaccinate your birds for? I have those Blue & Black Mottled eggs (and a few of my own Columbian eggs

) in the 'bator due next weekend and I'm ordering some Marek's vaccine tomorrow - is there anything else I should give them? I was eying the Newcastle-Bronchitis vaccine, thinking that might be a good thing to do.

I heard something about a confirmed case of Newcastle in a flock a few hours north of me a few weeks ago.

I probably won't be keeping all these chicks, and I want them to be protected wherever they end up!

I Dont vaccinate anything. I think with good biosecurtity , healthy birds, and common sense used you don't need to vaccinate. I will be shipping my first birds soon (maybe) and they will be un-vaccinated. Now if i ever had a respiratory disease or anything viral, I wouldn't ever sell my birds.

Earlier this summer I posted pictures of my blue cochin/buff orpington babies. I wanted to share a picture of one of the hens now that she's almost to laying size. I think they're so pretty! I have five hens and a rooster all with the same pattern (buff in front, blue in the back, with black heads) so I am going to breed them next year and see what the next generation looks like.
