Cochin Thread!!!

I am so jealous. I purchased a pair of black bantam cochins in august hoping to get some eggs to hatch as she was a laying pullet. Still no eggs. I can't even find a dozen for sale that I can afford right now. More pictures please I need pictures until I can get more little soccer ball fuzzy butts. I love cochins. Hmmmm maybe I will find some at the yankee fall classic on sunday.

I need some information on Cochins. I have a cochin that is 24-25 weeks. Once I posted a picture of him on here and I got equal responses on rooster/hen. Still, I think he is a rooster. The only problem is that he has no rooster behaviors. He has yet to crow. I watch from my window every day to see if he crows. The main rooster does but he never does. He harms none. Never bothers the hens...in fact he seems to be at the bottom of the pecking order. He is a gentle giant.

It is unusual for a cochin rooster not to crow ever? Again, is it unusual for a rooster not to show any rooster behaviors. Maybe because he is at the bottom of the pecking order he has learned to not get in anyones way. I am just glad there is no fighting between the cochin and the head rooster. However, I am preparing a place for him should that happen.

Thanks for any input.

I have 2 LF cochin roos that are about 22 weeks old. I have never seen or heard either of them crow. One of them will do the feather flair thing to one of the other roosters but that is as far as any agression has gone. The other one is really really calm even though he is bigger even than the head roo. They seem to get along very well. BUT he is definitely a roo. And I would think by 24 weeks you should be able to tell a roo for sure. I bet if you posted an updated pic lots of people could help you out for sure.
When mine were about 10-12 weeks, I posted pics asking help and it was a split over roo/hen, but a few weeks later the diferences became very apparent.
I hope mine stay peacable flock members. I hope yours does too.

A GIRL??????

I feel like I have just given birth! How wonderful! You are sure? My grandaughter is going to be so excited! We have both studied her and looked up pictures online and worried over her. So now she is not Harry anymore but Harriet again!

This has really been the sweetest chicken ever. We did not even notice her feathered legs when we got her and were quite surprised. I know she is not as pretty as some of the cochins I have seen going through this thread but we love her!! Yeah, us!! (thought I was going to have to build another pen!) (I still might and get a few more!)

Thanks!!

I don't know. I haven't been playing this game as long as a lot of people on here but I swear that barred looks like a Roo to me. I keep looking back at all of the pictures and I swear I see "streamers" in several of the photos. Maybe I do need glasses.
