Have fun at the show and take PICS! I would love to see some LF Cochins of all colors!

Thats a good point, as well as remembering that a judge will not always judge the same bird the same way every time. One show you could be on champion row and the next not even place.

Mr. Ree :

The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience. You cant win em all and would have to be darn good to win big on your first show. Its awesome showing birds. Get to be in a place all day where almost everyone there is as crazy about chickens as you are. The "stank eye" is reserved for the crazy people who dont like um. Heehee

X2. I go to learn - I ask questions all the time from people who know more from me. I'll tell you something - I never really win. I had a fluke where my Speckled Sussex made reserve in her class, but usually I get only best variety because I'm the only one. But, I still love it, and learn more every time. I just picked up two LF Cochin pullets from Jamie Matts that I hope will do well. (Of course, the blue one started molting the second I mailed the entry form for Ohio!) I never assume I'm going to win. That would be a bonus to all I learned and the new people I met. I've shown some pretty bad birds before I knew anything, but no one ever said anything to me - everyone was wonderful. You'll have way more fun than you expect!

I was talking to my daughters last night about going to the show with me, and just talking "chicken"...and my husband looks back and forth at us and says "sometimes I think I'm in the wrong house."

Thats a great point. Dont go in there expecting to sweep the show room with your birds and put everyone else to shame, but dont go there expecting that you will be going home empty handed either. Most breeders will tell you just about anything you need to know as long as you ask them. Its also nice to just stand around and listen to everyone swap stories or tips, thats a very effective learning tool. Just go in that place open minded about whatever happens, but most of all just enjoy yourself!

And I know what you mean CountryGirl, I have been talking chicken with people before and gotten stares from people like, "You weirdo what did you just say?" People just dont understand, luckily my family doesnt try to understand and they just go with it, LOL!

I have a neighbor across the street that is my chicken mentor and almost every weekend there is a poultry auction that has BYC Okie attending. There aren't too many Cochin lovers though - a few have cochins but not exclusively.
-Have you ever seen the Okie thread? It has 7000+ pages! -I'm only a Okie by Military move but they sure are kind and welcoming.

I had posted this a few days and got no replies. Curious if I could get some help... Aside from that how can you tell if your chick will be a blue or a splash?

Got a few more pics of some of my cochins over the last few days.. Tell me what you think
