Cochin Thread!!!

Wow! She did grow into a beautiful lady, Janelle!
love.gif

She is already heavily Mottled to be so young but like you say, she will compliment your roo in that dept. My roo is not too Mottled his own self and look what he threw!
And she isn't as blue as I thought she was going to be. You are right! I should have kept her! LOL

I am very glad you have her and I knew from the time she was about 5 weeks old that she was a fantastic specimen but you needed her and I needed something else at the time so she is yours. You have done a great job raising her up, too.

I found 2 more like her in the chick pen so I can't wait to see how they mature out. My other black Mottled chicks have a good bit of white right now but I don't show so I don't care. I just like my "basketballs"!

The rest of your flock is coming along very nicely. You are going to get some super cute chickies this spring! If I had the space I would get some from you. Keep me in mind if you want to trade in the future.

Quite the ambassador of the breed. The very reason when people ask me about breeds that are good w/children, Cochin are always the first out of my mouth!

It helps that at 4 years old very little intimidates him, and he is very good at restraining their wings.

Hello all! I need some advice. Im going to be putting some eggs in an incubator(for the first time) and have been setting eggs from my Cochins aside. My issue is, I have a beautiful Blue Cochin Roo and 2 hens, one who is Black and one that is Buff. I know its better to hatch the eggs from Blue x Black, but my Black hen is not as good looking as the Buff one. How would the Blue x Buff look? They are all the same age, but bought from different places.

This is a 3 month old Standard Cochin pullet, I am curious of how you would critique her according to the SOP,
and considering she is real young.

Notice the cat on the couch! Its when they both first realized
"someone was watching them"!

Hello Cochin thread.

The blue x buff combination there will create a 50% chance of a golden colored Cochin with black speckling, smudging, and blotting, and a 50% chance of a golden Cochin with blue speckling, smudging, etc.

Since Buff has so many genes that make it up, you'll wreck its color with any out-crossing of colors other than a good, light colored Wheaten.

Oh, and the 3 month old is pretty young to be critiqued.

Cochins are slow growers, give her time. . .

Illia...I know, I know *sigh* ...but the luck I've had, a whole story, just like all of you have!
I'm just eager to have my baby grown up. Like all Cochin's they are the best for temperament,
ornimental and just plain ole fluffy poof balls!

It looks partridge.

I thought at first partridge too, Shelley, but its feet are too light. Partridge feet are usually darker. Thanks hun! I had another one that looks exactly like it hatch last night so we'll see what they look like as they grow up.

Here's some pics of a couple of our GL Cochin pullets out in the yard. Not the greatest pic but thought I would share anyway.
