Here's the link to Cochins International - there is also a link on their website for the membership form. There is still (limited) time to join and still be included in the 2011-2012 Breeder's Directory, which is currently in the works for publication this fall.

It is all very confusing.

I don't know who is right. It may be that in the US my Pekins would be thought of as Bantam Cochins bred to UK standards.

It would make sense that each group would be breeding their birds towards their own countries' standard and that eventually the two groups of chickens would have noticable differences. After all, I think that very few chickens of today would have very much in common with the original group/s that they started from.

BUT, If my poor eggies make it, I will post some pictures of my Pekin/Cochin chicks. Even if this debate never gets resolved one thing will always hold true ....... all chicks are cute!

A few pictures:

This is a picture of 4 Columbian Cochin day old chicks. The 2 on the left are lighter in color and will grow up with potential to be future breeders or better. The 2 on the right will be too dark and smutty as they grow out. The birds on the right will have a good undercolor but will never be show material. This does not relate to type, only color. Unfortunately the ones on the right may be the better type birds.

One of my culls that I am keeping to grow out. She is way too dark but beautiful and will become a pet for one of my grandchildren.
