Sooooo sad that Nancy had to give up ALL her chickens (and sheep), but I'm sure you will put them to good use.

I think I read somewhere that you always breed splash to splash. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm a beginner) but I thought continuing breeding that way just produces ever more diluted (washed out) splash. Aren't you supposed to cross to a black now and then?

Come Fall and cooler weather, If I get a broody, I may be interested in eggs of either splash or MF. I tried hatching 2 recently didn't make it

I got those MFC roos before Nancy fell. But yes, I am putting them to good use.

And yes, I breed Splash to Splash, but this is what I am getting:

I am getting this:

So unless I start seeing that problem I will continue breeding this way. I bought the pair from The Cochin Coop, and am adding this cockerel and 3 half sisters to my breeding pen. I will not be keeping any of the offspring from those. So it should not be a problem. I will have birds to sell this Fall.

I decided to try bantam cochins this summer so I bought some quality eggs. Lemon blues, red/brown and splash. I only have one pullet and she is lemon blue the rest (7) are cockerels in lemon blue, red/brown and I have a splash. Obviously I can't keep 7 cockerels so who do you determine you want to keep color wise to breed back to this lemon blue pullet? They are all excellent specimens so looking for faults is out. Any help?
