Cochin Thread!!!

Thank you! the judge really liked the cochins. He also liked my dark blue BLRW.She came in second out of probably fifteen hens in the barn. Then my bantam salmon faverolle came in third out of around twenty. He said that she would have placed better but she was in what he called rough condition( missing two tail feathers). However he did not like the Wheaten hen. She got eighth out of probably fifteen also.

Charles was good for showmanship. It was a really tough class this year. Everyone had alot of knowledge. I got sixth place out of probably twenty people in my class. I need to work on eye contact. I am trying to get over the fact that I am shy.l am thinking about becoming a member of the APA so I can get to do shows for points and go to more shows. My question to all of you smart people on the cochin thread is are the APA showmanship classes exactly like the ones in 4H? What do the judges look for?

I would love a forum dedicated to showing cochins.. The shows start around here next month and I have not pulled a single chicken off the ground to show.. I am in the market for a couple of mottled hens... I placed a Lemon Blue Rooster, brown red rooster and lemon blue splash rooster and 5 lemon blue hens this weekend.. Here they are right before leaving.

Wasn't sure whether to post here or on the new topic. I will try here first. I would like a critique of my black bantam cochin rooster. I purchased him and black pullet last year.

My children are joining 4h this year and would like to start showing. I am planning on breeding and would like to do it to standard. I have blacks, self blues, a pair of reds, and two gold laced pullets. I plan on breeding blacks and self blues for now. I just refuse to send the pair of reds to auction and no one around here will buy them, is $30 for a laying pair to much? The gold laced pullets will be staying just for eye candy. I tried to go to the fairs and watch judging but my local fair had almost no chickens this year and had not one single cochin which is really unusual. The other fair within driving distance wont let you watch the judging. I will be going back this week because they were changing over exhibits when I was there and mostly all they had were polish.

Sorry they aren't perfect but I am still trying to get the hang of photoing chickens. Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated.

I like your Black roo also. Craig do they count off a lot for the normal wear and tear on a roos comb? I've heard that it's not look badly on too much. Of course if you're showing Blacks they have to be perfect.
I also like your Self blues, as I was reading initially I thought you might not have known what you had, but I see that you definitely do. Tom Roebuck is making great strides in breeding the Self blues so you would want to watch for him and his posts. I think there might even be a thread just for them.........not really sure.
