This is a Cochin thread. A Pekin thread would be somewhere in the UK. I know of no such thread/topic on BYC. I do admire some of the birds posted on the European and UK sites.

Absolutely!!!! They are gorgeous.........I always dream of someday being able to import their "Pekins" over here. They've really got the colors down. Oh, and you like Pekins you should check out the Aussie site. WOW!

Yup, I'm with Gail......I'm no help to you. However, I'm just not looking forward to having them in the house, chicks I don't mind, but my problem is that I end up having to keep them in until they're WAY too big. Argh!!!

I've seen the Aussie site and their Newsletters -

In the UK, they seem to focus a lot on the "tilt" of their show Pekin Bantams.

..............Thank you very much. I've looked long and hard for them and his line won BB at the National last year. Of course there wasn't a LOT of competition......never is......but there was some and they were very nice. This has been a horrible year for hatching for me.........I've had a really high % of dead in the shell which totally broke my heart. Things have improved as the summer wore on, but I'm ready to quit and NOW they are starting to lay again. I CAN'T stop with eggs sitting on the counter.
I'm going to tear my hair out if I end up with chickens in the house this winter! I'm a very little operation and could get caught with babies that I can't put out until they are starting to look like CHICKENS. You know what that means if they're inside.........yuck!!!

i know i just got mine all out this week, except for a couple special needs, and they are happier... and so am i...

I might have got that wrong - I'm not sure about the UK, but in Australia they like a bird with good "tilt": Head down, cushion up.

Oh well, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I guess I'll have to try and find a UK site as we currently live in England.

Wow, lucky you! You can actually own their gorgeous birds. Hope you stay with the thread and give us a picture show from time to time.

Ahhhhhhhh, I see. I wonder if is mechanically created, like teaching the bird to stand that way, or it's genetic and they naturally stand that way?
