Cochin Thread!!!

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your boy. It must be in the air. I went out to my pen and found my red roo in the same predicament. I had him up for sale and wanted to get rid of him but not this way. Of course it happened right after I found out I could get myself a few more incomplete gold laced from him and my gold laced girls.

I had just recently decided to breed them and see what pops out. Now I might be completely out of luck.

I cant get him to eat the bread soaked in oil and am afraid to try and force feed it. I tend to be very good at drowning things. Have been ever since I was a kid. I can nurture them and do just about anything to fix the animal up, but trying to get liquids in to an animal that won't take them always results in drowning.

It is drinking bits of the acv water and I massage every 15 mins since I brought him in the house.

Yesterday afternoon is when I found him and realized something was wrong. He didn't come in for feeding time. So I immediately put him in the cage, as soon as I picked him up he started vomiting and I could feel how distended his crop was. This morning it has gone way down but there is still a lump in there. I gave him the acv water overnight. He is no longer vomiting but wont eat. Could I maybe try a different type of oil? The evo is kind of strong. I also have canola, vegetable and safflower oil in the house. I really don't want to have to put him down but if I can't help him I can't leave him suffer.

I have a color question. I have my black mottled frizzle in with a mixed color flock. I'll be seperating colors later. So now I have 2, 1 month olds hatched from him over my blue girl....I thought I would have blue and black solid color chicks split for mottling. I'm seeing little white tips on some of the feathers on both,? As well as white on the first few primaries wing feathers. Was I wrong in my thinking? Do I actually get blue and black mottleds from this cross? I have 4, 4 day olds...looks like at least one blue in there.

Here's a pic of the new ones.
The all yellow chick is my ee.

even solid colored chicks will have white feathers until they get their adult feathers in. i was confused at first with mottleds and solids because i thought they were all mottleds with the white feathers. the easiest way to tell is when they get their first set of feathers the mottleds will have a white chest and looks like a tuxedo paattern

Aah haa thank you. I have some solid birds, but I got them after they had feathered in, so missed the white feathering mixed in. My mottleds I got as chicks. And now I know solids have white feathering for a bit. Thank you
