Cochin Thread!!!

i have 2 separate breeding programs. I am breeding bbs mottleds to the SOP and my kaleidoscopes are just eye candy for fun, hence the name. whenever you buy a bird you should research on your own the SOP because we all know that there are some people out there that will tell you anything just to make a buck. I have seen quite a few people that bought what was supposed to be a quality bird and received a hatchery quality pet bird

I am an honest breeder, if a bird I'm selling is PQ, I say so. As in the case with KDailey. I sold her PQ culls from my project pens. And I stated that in my auctions. I sold them cheap. I would never try to pass off my culls as "quality" birds. I am not responsible for what my buyers call them, or for their breeding decisions. Once they leave my farm they are no longer my birds. I do expect a higher price for the good quality birds I sell. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If the buyer is happy with my culls and loves them and calls them beautiful, that is fine. It does not make me a bad breeder.

I breed lf cochins I have blues and am working on lemon blue my blues are breed to the standard and so are my project lemon blues. If they do not come close to the standard I cull I only have one pullet that was what I call lemon blue that was close to the standard all the others had to go. One thing that gets to me is all these crosses that people have if your breeding for a color fine but don't post your culls on here and get mad because there mutts. And all the treads on here about crossing this with that amazes me. And just making up names for a color. Wow

to quote jerry and his serama "my dime, my time" if you want to there is nothing wrong with making up your own color or even your own bird. in my opinion it's better than trying to pass something off as an actual color that breeds true. I wanted to give some kind of name to the birds that I am creating that captures the essence of what they are. I never intended to present them as any more than beautiful eye candy but I would like to get the type nice eventually. I would LOVE to see a blue laced red cochin with nice type, but it will take more time and space than what I have here. If you can find me a pure cochin with a red and blue pattern PLEASE let me know because I have not seen it to this day

I don't do any showing, I am so new to all this and I realize I probably need to work on my birds a few more years to reach the levels and SOP's that so many of you have built your breeding programs on.
I love this thread because there is so much advice and so much experience to learn from here. If I ever need help, it's right there. There are some people on here that are an absolute wealth of knowledge.
I really appreciate being able to have my questions answered and I hope that every day, I learn something new to help me achieve the breeding program that I someday hope to have. Maybe someday I'll even have a show entry! I just wanted to say thank you to all the Cochin Peeps, I think this thread is wonderful! No matter what is said or done, we're all here because we love our birds, no matter what color, shape, size they are.
