oh yeah, i've had luck introducing my other birds to each other :) i take my time though. like living next to one another with a fence between for several weeks and then letting them all free range together, etc.

my cochin chicks are in a chicken tractor right now and the silkies are in a coop. my bigger birds are in a shed turned coop. but those guys all hang together during the day. however, the cochins will need to move in a month or so to make way for the chicks i'm hatching now. and the best place i feel for them is with the silkies. i just wanted to make sure it was ok/ safe to do that. otherwise i will just build another tractor :) i'd rather them be in the pretty and professionally made coop. they are just so pretty!!! i love all their feathers!!

i'm not too sure where it's at,, not close to here

That was the first thing I heard this morning when I woke up, the news folks were all freaking out, but anyway Zanesville is about 150 mi from me and maybe 200 from Mandy. It's about 50/60 mi East of Columbus which is where the National is held. It's right on I-70.
Jack Hanna is the current curator of the Columbus zoo, a very famous wild life specialist and the stupid police didn't even bother to call him before they started shootin' and killin'. It will be interesting to find out how this all fits together. The owner was shot and I think dead, so who did that? Did he shoot himself, was it an accident or did someone else do it? The plot thickens.

Just got back from a 3-day trip to Boston. DH did a great job taking care of the chickens for me. Took me a while to catch up on the thread but no mind; I never get tired of seeing pictures of Cochins.

Tragic all around. The last I heard before heading for work this morning was that they thought he had let them all out, and then committed suicide.

That was my first thought, but there were some animals still in their cages, however I don't know if the doors were open and they stayed inside (fear) or they were never opened in the first place. Some that were still there were Snow Leopards!

There really needs to be a law about the sale, trade and keeping of exotic animals. Gov. Strickland wrote a bill about it, but it was tabled after the election of our now republican governor.
I'd better shut up before I get booted off here for hijacking the thread.

ok, one more question :)

i have looked all over to find this info, but can't find anything definitive. 2 of the chicks i have have 5 toes. does this mean they are a silkie/ cochin mix? it will take me days to go through this entire thread. i'm looking to see what a cochin/ silkie looks like :)

thanks!
