Cochin Thread!!!

That is great that they shipped so well! They are beautiful! Congrats!

This my pair of Mille Fleur cochins! They just arrived this morning and are from Lynne!

My post master told me when I walked in to pick them up that he was crowing from inside the box, so they figured he was Ok. She said someone opened the door and the bell rang and he stopped crowing. She told me that every time he crowed they cracked up laughing.

I opened the box to see my new babies, and the post master and other postal workers all asked to see them. They were duly ooh'ed and ahh'ed over.

When I got them home out of the box, I found an egg in the bottom!!

How wonderful for you to get some beautiful birds from Lynne! What a great start you will have and I am excited to see another MFC enthusiast!

Hey all I posted before about a specific chicken so here goes again lol
This is supposed to be a Lav cochin , is it ?

ZC

The photo is too small to see it well.

Picture is too small to tell. Probably is. The proper name is Self Blue not Lavender. The gene needed is the Lavender gene, the color definition in the standards is Self Blue.

Is this one better ?

And ok so the self blue is the correct color Thanks
This pic is when he was still younger.

Sorry I'm so late in replying to your post. I've been cruising around this site all morning & finally found your post. So pleased that your are happy with your pair. Keep us posted on their progress. Thanks again for giving them such a good home.

Probably my fault, I should have probably posted in a new thread - bragged to the world...hmm might still do that!

They seem happy so far! He's been crowing like crazy! I just went out to freshen their water and check on their feed and boy is he quick! Not thinking I left the door open for a minute while I was filling their water, and he leapt out of the pen! Thankfully I was quick, too, and grabbed him before he hit the ground. WHEW. lol

In other news, my other new cochins over in the other pen have laid both days so far! I got 4 eggs out of 5 girls yesterday and 2 eggs today! So glad I've fired up my incubator!

Which means mixed right. Is he worth getting nice quality cochin hens for ? Or should I just start over.
Looking at what Tom has done by breeding Self Blues to good Blacks and culling I would say go for it if you want. Tom (cochinman2005) started a thread a while back on his self blue project. He has pictures from day 1. Clearly explaining the entire process.Check it out.
