I have enjoyed following this cochin thread, learned so much, met some really nice folks, enjoyed seeing pictures of everyone's birds, tried not to step on anyone's toes, loved sharing my pictures of my birds~
Sadly and honestly though, I'm almost afraid to post anything on here anymore

I read a lot of the talk on here but seldom post either. I notice a bit of ........um.....difference to what I feel about my birds.
I breed the best to the best and hope for the best. I have some awesome birds but do not show them personally. I have people buy from me and show them and keep quiet about where they got them when they do well. That is fine for me. I get a snicker out of them beating breeders that like to brag about how great theirs are and thumb their noses at "beginners". I am not here for fame and fortune. I just love sharing my love for Cochins.

I know we all love them and I am one of those that works on several different kinds of projects with them and breed a few pens of just type instead of color since that is only icing on the cake and still just as sweet. They are still Cochins whether or not they are accepted into the SOP.

I will keep reading on here but won't post as much because some of my friends have been hurt and some no longer even own Cochins because of this thread and breeders at the shows. It can't hurt me because as I have said, I breed for what I like and no one else. It just so happens I love a well balanced Cochin that has been around for many, many years and came from another country.

I agree, I love my bantam cochins, and while i'm not showing at the moment, i'm trying to build up what quality and stock i have right now.

but if only the "pros" have anything to say, and won't answer questions posed by 'newbies' then how is anyone likely to learn anything when they ask questions?

i'll hop off my soap box now, and go back to being one of the stupid silly newcomers who's actually been breeding cochins off and on since 1995 and learned about them from someone who, in my opinion, is one of the best mentors I could ever have hoped for, and would (i would hope) never go off in a public forum on people who want to learn and may ask too many questions now and then... if you've been around as long as you say then i'm sure you know him as well. and even tho he's not breeding cochins any more (at least as of the last time i spoke with him) Bob Hawes will always be the first one I go back to if i have any serious questions about something.

Amy, you have been very nice to everyone I see you communicate with. We haven't had any dealing yet, but you know how much I want your Mille blood in my project stock. Your mottleds are gorgeous, imo, too. I wish everyone was more like you.

And this is where we enjoy everyone's company. We speak up for what we believe and what we love.
I talk with many of you on the MFC thread because we do enjoy working on that TOGETHER. I believe I could breed Cochins for the next 100 years and still not know as much as I would like about them. But I love my kids and love to hear all about everyone's here on BYC and the many other forums I am on.
As I said, I read more than I answer. I wish I could answer everyone's posts with my opinion but this thread flies along much too fast for me as I work the farm here by myself. Too much work, too many feathered friends and never enough hours in the day.
I do love to help "newbies" but I feel I am new my own self. I have only been breeding bantam Cochins for 7 years. And yes, I may hatch several hundred a year and I may study genetics continuously but as my sig line says.......science is still too young to understand. Experience is a great teacher but sharing experiences is gold!
I value all opinions and I often get tickled (only because I see myself asking the same things years ago) at questions from people just getting into this breed but no one is stupid. I may not know the answer but often wish I had time to throw in my 2 cents to maybe help someone else.

And not to slight the LF Cochins because I do love those, as well. I just do not often breed them since I only have "project" pair.

Thank you. I treat people the way I like to be treated.
