Rip off the poop with a little fuz and it wont happen again

most people wet a Q-tip and get it off the nice way but this would have to be repeated

DO IT ASAP, THIS IS FATAL IF YOU DONT GET IT OFF

when you hatch cochin chicks, does the poop get stuck in their chick hair. My do and how can i stop it.

You need to remove it as soon as possible but try to wet it down with warm water first. It's a little painful to just pull it off as it pulls the feathers out too. If you don't get it off, the chick can't poop and gets backed up and will most likely die.

ok. i am ne to the cochin bantam, like just got some stock this year. i just picked up a bunch of birds. building the coops now, will do done tomorrow. i have my roosters seperated for the moment but all the hens in the big coop with my first rooster, barred. the hens have been laying like crazy for three days now. my incubator is full and not due until april one. i can have them all seperated tomorrow but what do i do with the eggs now. can't sell them.......hens are as follows.... barred, buff, blue, black and 2 Mille

Thanks. After i got it off, (warm cloth), he went and did his business really fast. How do i stop this from happening again.

cant really prevent it but next time it happens rip off some of his butt fuzz, that will prevent it

She's 8 days old and I'm pretty sure she's a girl. She's a cochin (obviously which is why I'm posting in this thread)

I once pulled some off a chick and it injured the vent and the chick later died!

- so I always use a warm, wet cloth now.

handy thing about chickens... you get too many roosters, you can sell them or put the extras in the freezer. too many eggs? sell em or eat em. or scramble and feed them back to the chickens.

i personally won't sell or hatch mixed color eggs, unless i'm experimenting with genetics to see what i get. so i'd suggest having separate breeding pens, or worst case, a small area to segregate hens and roos of the same colors for a few hours at a time every couple days, and keep the sexes separated otherwise. and remember to give it a couple weeks to make sure that the eggs would be pure. just in case.
