i've noticed some colors seem to feather much slower than others. my silver laced were still mostly fuzz when everyone else was fully fluffed, and now my birchen pullet is a bit smaller and half the feathering of her hatchmates too. the frizzle is the same size but about 3 days younger so not much difference. she didn't start really feathering in until nearly 3 weeks old. so it might just be a slow feathering gene associated with certain colors. that slow feathering gene is also responsible for the difference between 'barred' vs 'cuckoo' breed birds. the cuckoo feathers much more rapidly than the barred, which is why the color bands are much smaller and more distinct on barred than cuckoo.I have a question too. I have 2 bantam Cochins that I purchased at the same time, about 1.5 months ago. The white one seems large, but smaller than a full-size chick) and I think a roo. I have a mottled that is about 1/2 the size of the white. I'm wondering if this chick so much smaller because it's a pullet or if it an unthrifty chick that I need to pull out of that pen and bring in to see if I can get it to add size/weight. For reference, this chick is not much larger than my Silver Sebright hen, but is larger. The chick also seems dysmature compared to the others. It still has fuzz on it's head where the other chicks the same age are basically fully feathered.
her comb is Bright red...and she cluck's and the roo runs and gets in the nest with her and she don't even move when i go close to her....

i noticed that mine feathered out a lot faster once i put her outside with the others. but depending on where you are that might not be possible yet...
