What would the outcome of a golden laced cross splash cochin look like?
most crosses won't result in any predictable outcome. most of the time, the only time a color can be guaranteed is when you breed 2 of the same thing together. some genes are dominant, others recessive.

mottled is a recessive gene that requires 2 birds to carry. laced also requires 2 genes i believe. a splash to anything will turn the base color from black to blue, but doesn't affect whatever pattern will come about. i would recommend reading up on poultry genetics if you're interested in trying to predict what crosses might look like, but it can be quite confusing if you don't have a basic understanding of genetics already.

Ok, cochin experts I need some opinions on genders on my cochin chicks. They are 7 weeks old, and I think my frizzle is 8 weeks old now. I have comb shots of all of them and a decent body shot of one I am wondering about color on. I apologize ahead of time for picture quality. I did the best I could while holding chicks that didn't want to be held in one hand and the camera in the other. If better pictures are needed I can probably get my DH to help this weekend.

Blue chick

Black Frizzle

This one is the one I am curious on color. I am wondering if maybe it isn't blue mottled. Is there a blue mottled color in cochins?

Body shot. It is the one in front of all the white ones and the turken.
I THINK it is a Splash pullet, but it's very hard to tell for sure.

I was thinking it would turn out to be a splash when I first got it as a chick, but now that it is feathering in it is confusing me. It appears more blue with white splotches and all the splashes I have seen are white base with blue or black splashes of color. Guess I just wait and see what the full adult color turns into. Fortunately everyone seems to think that one is a pullet so that means she gets to stay.
