my first self blue baby!!!

and i don't care if it's a him or her, if it turns out halfway like the parents it's staying!

Woo hoo! Congratulations!

Thank you to everyone who had a guess at my chicks gender! I was pretty confident she was indeed a she....but wanted some other opinions.

Congrats Karen! Keep us posted as to its development. Now put it back in the brooder so it can finish drying!!!

those are EGGS she's leaning on. still in the hatcher. i don't like taking chicks out when i have active pips, unless they've been in there a while and are rocking everything else around. her hatchmates consist of 2 coturnix quail, 2 mille/partridge cochin and 2 ee/dorking crosses. with more cochins (3 self blue split and 6 mille split eggs) and a turkey still waiting their turn.

So, did anybody here know if you cross a golden laced with a black you will get somewhat partridge. Here a link to show some of you. Not my bird but I tried it and got a pullet that looks identical to a partridge. If you would like i could upload some pics.

My observation, and opinion, is that her cock bird, Harvey, while appearing Golden Laced, is incomplete for all the GL genes, i.e. Pg/Pg, Ml/Ml, Co/Co. This is noted when you look at Harvey's hackle. A Golden Laced hackle should be: "lustrous greenish black, with a narrow edging of rich golden bay, uniform in width, extending around point of feather; shaft of feather, golden bay." There is no black in the hackle at all, so I believe Harvey is incomplete for the Columbian gene.

That would result in offspring appearing more Partridge (Pg).

This is one of the issues with Golden Laced - there has been so much introduced into them (and bred out of them) to improve not only the lacing but the type as well.

and no more than 5 minutes after pulling everyone out, and checking humidity, # of pips, etc. i leave the room, only to hear a racket from the hatcher again! another cochin (mille or partridge) zipped entirely in less than 5 minutes to make his debut.

You are having far too much fun tonight!!
