Cochin Thread!!!

LOL - Everyone got their legbands this morning, and while they were busy admiring each others new ankle bracelets, they all decided that something was very interesting about the thermometer. I just had to get a couple of pics.

Hahahahaha!!! They look like a bunch of teenage girls clustered in front of the mirror! Just watch out, pretty soon they are going to want makeup and to go on dates to the movies!

Chicks hatching as I post this. 9 out so far and another 23 eggs to go. Silver Penciled , Partridge, Columbian and Buff Columbian chicks and eggs in there. Hoping the Blacks lay soon. No coon will get these since I dead bolted the shop door. No more accidents or mistakes with chicks.

I have an injured and traumatized cochin. It's breaking my heart. She's only about 6 weeks old.
A few days ago my small dog went after a loose small bird, I thought there was only one out but apparently this cochin was outside, too.
She is sitting still today like a little stuffed animal and hiding under things. My husband and I have moved her out of our way today several times. She doesn't even try to get away from us, she just holds her wing. Her left wing looks bruised but I don't see a break.

I got a container with water and began to just put some cold water over her. (It is 112 here today) I rubbed her wing a little and got off the yucky stuff where it looks like my dog may have had it in her mouth and sat in the yard with her while she dried. It really didn't help her feel any better.

I worry for her and wonder if I should bring her inside. Any advice?

I left her in the pen since and was going to bring her in today after I got something I could keep her in as a "hospital". I checked on her 5 or 6 times today and each time held her so she could get water and she was doing good. She even came outside and wandered and bit. I just went down to close them in the coop for the evening and bring her inside and she was hiding behind the water block. I picked her up and her head flopped but she was still alive. I hollered for my husband and told him what was happening. I went to put water over her to cool her off, she was so hot from hiding in a different place. I was holding her and as soon as I told my husband what was going on she threw up on my arm, her wings flapped, and she passed on

I'm so upset that she suffered and I didn't know it. I checked on her so much today and she showed no signs of being near death. I feel awful. At least now I have a "hospital" if something else is to occur.

sorry to hear you lost your little one... and a very good idea to have a hospital cage handy for the 'just in case'. i have several travel cages i use for the swaps and such, and if they need extra heat or something i use one of my brooders, if they're not all occupied. i prefer the travel cages tho, with wire floors, especially if it's an injury, so i can keep the wound clean(er) and monitor the poops too if needed.

Hi, I am new to the bantam Cochins. A BYC friend sent me some bantam buff Brahma eggs and included two bantam Cochin eggs which both hatched. They are the cutest little roosters! One is a MF and the other is pure white and it looks like he is going to be a frizzle. His wing feathers are curling which makes him look like he has angel wings! I just love these guys! They are 4 weeks old.

Also, looking at the picture from above it does appear he might have a little frizzle in him. Here is one of my bantam frizzle cochin naked naecks so you can compare.
This one is about the same age.

You can see the frizzle is a lot more evident here, maybe yours will fan out like this!
